Pierce just finished his first season as a head coach in the NBA with Atlanta, helping the team exceed all expectations behind the play of Trae Young and John Collins. Before joining the Hawks, he was an assistant to Brett Brown in Philadelphia. Pierce has shown a knack for developing talent. Now, he will have the opportunity to do it on a national stage.
Team USA plays in a handful of exhibition games this Summer as well as the FIBA Basketball World Cup that takes place from August 31st to September 15th.
On a side note, this is also a unique opportunity for Pierce to develop relationships with some of the league’s top talent. You never know what kind of role that might play in free agency down the road.
