Fernando began his career with Atlanta before joining the Celtics and then the Rockets for a couple of seasons. The Hawks re-acquired him before the trade deadline last season in a trade for Justin Holiday and Frank Kaminsky. Fernando hasn’t had many opportunities at the NBA level, and I don’t expect that to change this season. He will likely fill in the role as the third center on the roster.
By guaranteeing Fernando’s contract, the Hawks now have 14 of their 15 roster spots fully guaranteed. Although, I wouldn’t put a ton of weight into that. They are still very active on the trade, including a plethora of trade rumors surrounding Pascal Siakam, which would undoubtedly shake things up.
