The dust has settled from a busy part of the offseason for Landry Fields. The Hawks drafted Zaccharie Risacher with the No. 1 overall pick and quickly traded Dejounte Murray to the Pelicans after that.
It was a deal that was inevitable. Whether it was Trae Young or Murray, one was always going to be traded this offseason. The duo had run its course. It was a wonky fit to begin with, and it turned out to be much more problematic than anybody could have imagined.
The Hawks ended up getting a decent haul of picks and players from New Orleans, but it was only a fraction of what they gave up for Murray in the first place. It was a regrettable trade and one that Travis Schlenk was forced into by ownership. That’s not how Landry Fields sees it, though.
At a media session in Atlanta, the Hawks GM was asked about the initial Dejounte Murray trade, and Fields said that there’s no regret there, and he would do it again.

Landry Fields wasn’t the man making decisions for the Hawks in 2022 when they sent the Spurs two first-round picks in 2025 and 2027 along with a pick swap in 2026, so this feels like it’s just coach speak, but this is such a laughable lie.
Of course the Hawks regret the trade? I’m not sure saying, “We regret the trade,” would’ve landed perfectly for Fields, but let’s not ignore the elephant in the room. The Hawks would love to own their 2025 and 2027 first-round picks right about now.
The experiment of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray didn’t work out, but it’s not like it was a seamless fit on paper to begin with either. It was always a questionable pairing from the get-go.
Hawks fans certainly regret the trade, at least this one does.
