About a week has passed since the Hawks traded Dejounte Murray to the Pelicans, signaling the club’s decision to build around Trae Young, yet we are still getting trade hypothetical for Atlanta’s All-Star point guard.
The latest comes from Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley, who came up with some “new” blockbuster trade ideas. For Trae Young, he has the Magic sending one first-round pick, a pick swap, and three players.

Orlando Magic receive: Trae Young
Atlanta Hawks receive: Markelle Fultz (sign-and-trade), Wendell Carter Jr., Jett Howard, 2025 first-round pick and 2026 first-round pick swap

It’s hilarious how these people operate. The Hawks can’t go into a rebuild without their picks, which the Spurs own and Buckley acknowledges. When San Antonio signed Chris Paul, that effectively erased any possibility of a total rebuild and a Trae Young trade.
Now, to the compensation, which is just straight-up disrespectful. Fultz is a backup point guard, Carter is a solid rotation piece, and Howard is a recent lottery pick who hasn’t shown much at all to go with a first-round pick that will surely be outside of the lottery next year if the Magic have Trae Young and a first-round pick swap.
Buckley cites Young’s “disastrous” defense as the reason for the small return for the Hawks, yet the paragraph before notes the star point guard is an offensive engine that would turn Orlando into the “league’s next stealth contender.”
It’s just another example of the national media saying “Trae Young on Hawks bad” but “Trae Young on [insert team] good.”
