Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report recently dropped a ton of inside information regarding the Hawks’ trade deadline plans. Everyone expects Atlanta to make a move, if not several, and one of their best players could be involved, John Collins. The fifth-year power forward understandably has a host of potential suitors. He’s one of the most efficient players in the NBA, but the Hawks seem open to trading him for the right price.
What might that price be? Fischer reports that the Hawks are looking for a first-round pick and a starting-caliber player in return for Collins.
One team contacted by Atlanta regarding Collins told Bleacher Report the Hawks were only seeking a valuable first-round pick and a starting-caliber player in exchange for the talented young forward.
Other teams believe the Hawks could draw an even higher return.
I’m not thrilled with the idea of moving Collins. Not only is he ultra-efficient, but he does all the little things necessary to win games. Despite all the rumors, he’s kept his head down and energy up as the Hawks attempt to get back into the playoff race. There’s no doubt that he can be a key piece on a team that contends for championships.
However, because of that, the Hawks could get a lot in return for his services. I understand Schlenk wanting to add some more dynamic offense, but I really hope he doesn’t have to move Collins to do so.
