I don’t think this season could have gotten off to a worse start for the Hawks. They came in with high expectations and are only 14-15 through 29 games. There is no shooting to be found in Atlanta, and even less depth. It’s a mess. To make matters worse, Trae Young is fighting with the coach. Even if the team doesn’t want to make that out to be a big deal, it’s a big deal. Now, seemingly every warm body on the roster is on the injury report.
Dejounte Murray is out, John Collins is out, De’Andre Hunter has missed time, Trae Young has missed time, Bogdanovic has missed almost the entire season, and today, the Hawks added Clint Capela to the list. He’s suffered a right calf injury and will be out 1-2 weeks.
From the Hawks:
“Center Clint Capela, who suffered a right calf injury during the fourth quarter of last night’s game at Orlando, underwent an MRI earlier today in Charlotte. The MRI revealed a right calf strain. Capela is expected to miss approximately one to two weeks and his return to play will be updated as appropriate.”
The writing is already on the wall. The Hawks have to blow things up before the trade deadline. However, Capela has been one of the few bright spots on a team that has become unwatchable. I would argue he’s been the best player on the Hawks so far this season, and I don’t even think it’s close. They desperately need him on the floor if they have any hope of turning this thing around prior to the trade deadline.
