As I speculated when Kris Dunn opted in using his player option, he will not be playing for the Hawks this upcoming season. Travis Schlenk has made a trade, moving the guard to Boston along with a 2023 second-round pick in exchange for center Tristan Thompson.
The Celtics are trading Tristan Thompson to Atlanta for Kris Dunn, and a 2023 second-round pick, sources tell ESPN.

With Dunn unlikely to push for playing time, it made sense to move him to a place where he might be able to carve out a role for himself. Meanwhile, the Hawks are able to patch up a hole of their own in this trade. With Onyeka Okongwu out for the next six months, Atlanta needed to find someone who could back up Clint Capela effectively. Thompson should do just fine. The ten-year veteran is still only 30-years-old, and while he’s not a game-changing addition, he knows his role, and he does it very well. There are few players that attack the offensive glass as Thompson does; he’ll be a quality addition to the Hawks second unit.
