Georgia QB Carson Beck finds a new home

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: NOV 06 Missouri at Georgia

Just a day after entering the transfer portal, former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has committed to Miami.

About a year ago, the Hurricanes lured Cam Ward away from the NFL Draft to Coral Gables, and it couldn’t have worked out better. Ward was projected to be a Day 2 draft pick, and he ended his college career as a Heisman finalist and in the mix for the top pick in April’s draft.

That seems to be Carson Beck’s plan as well. While he was considered a first-round pick to begin the 2024 campaign, that’s not how it ended. He finished with an SEC-leading 12 interceptions, but some of those struggles should be attributed to the poor offensive line, Mike Bobo, and atrocious pass catchers.

Of course, Ward has laid the blueprint for Beck to rebuild his value in the ACC. Beck was one of the better college signal callers in 2023, throwing for nearly 4,000 yards and 24 touchdowns with only six interceptions before his struggles in 2024.

For several reasons, this makes sense. Beck’s UCL injury certainly had to complicate his draft evaluation, pushing his stock down. In the NIL era, a quarterback like Carson Beck can make significantly more money by playing in college than a second round draft pick. Miami also presents him with an opportunity to win the ACC, clinch a CFP berth, and even a shot at another National Championship. This should have always been a no-brainer.

Georgia fans have turned against Carson Beck, and I think it’s pretty lame. Not many players could’ve succeeded in the Dawgs offense this season. Mike Bobo didn’t elevate the offense like Todd Monken. This may have been the worst offensive line in Kirby Smart’s tenure, and Georgia pass catchers led the entire country in drops. That’s not a recipe for success.

While he’s not as good as some Miami fans are probably thinking, Carson Beck certainly isn’t as bad as Georgia fans are making him out to be.
