Georgia Football: Todd Monken makes decision on future in NFL

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: NOV 06 Missouri at Georgia

Former Georgia Bulldogs offensive coordinator Todd Monken drew head coaching interest again this offseason, but he has decided to stay in Baltimore, agreeing to a contract extension with the Ravens, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Monken gets a new deal after coordinating the best offense in football, while also helping Lamar Jackson to the best season of his young career too.

The 58-year-old has drawn head coaching interest in the last two hiring cycles, interviewing for the Chargers and Panthers vacancies last year and the Jaguars and Bears this year. Last year, Monken’s offense finished 6th in yards and 4th in points, which improved this season, ranking 1st in yards and 3rd in points.

In his two seasons, the Ravens have been one of, if not the best offense in football, averaging nearly 400 yards of offense and 30 points per game in that span. Meanwhile, Lamar Jackson recorded career highs in passing yards (4,172) and touchdown passes (41) this season.

During his time with the Georgia Bulldogs, it was the same success. Monken helped lead the Dawgs to back-to-back national championships. Along the way, he led Stetson Bennett to an appearance in New York for the Heisman Trophy and Brock Bowers to back-to-back Mackey Awards.

There will eventually come an opportunity when an NFL club comes calling with a job opening, and Todd Monken will answer it. For the Ravens and Lamar Jackson, they’ve got to be thrilled that Monken has decided to stay in Baltimore.
