Todd Monken isn’t your typical head coach candidate. He’s not a young offensive coordinator like Ben Johnson, who is the most attractive target on the block as every organization looks for the next Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, or Kevin O’Connell. However, the former Georgia offensive coordinator has as good of a resumé as any.

Monken helped the Georgia Bulldogs win back-to-back national championships, and is now coordinating arguably the best offense in the NFL. Along the way, he led Stetson Bennett to an appearance in New York for the Heisman Trophy, Brock Bowers to back-to-back Mackey Awards, and Lamar Jackson to an MVP, which could possibly two MVPs in the coming weeks.

Monken should be thought of more highly in the public eye, but Georgia football fans know what he can bring to an offense, and there’s a chance he reunites with the greatest tight end in college football history.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Raiders have requested to interview Todd Monken, which follows interview requests from the Jaguars and Bears as well.

Brock Bowers would probably love to reunite with his former Georgia offensive coordinator. During his two seasons with Monken in Athens, Bowers totaled 119 receptions, 1,824 yards and 20 touchdowns through the air while adding 165 yards and four scores on the ground.

Bowers was a freak, and he was always going to be a star regardless of where he went or who coached him, but Monken knew how to get the absolute most out of him, which is scary considering his situation in Las Vegas. The Georgia football star caught passes from three different signal callers with the Raiders and still had the greatest season ever for a rookie tight end.

Bowers ranked third in the league in receptions (112), eighth in receiving yards (1,194), and fourth in yards after catch (596) — all of which rank first among tight ends this season. He also broke franchise records for most receptions in a single season, along with NFL records for most receptions by a rookie at any position and most receiving yards by a rookie tight end in a single season.

The Ravens would love to keep Todd Monken; there’s no doubt about that. He’s helped maximize Lamar Jackson and Baltimore’s talent on offense, but he’s as good as any head coaching candidate in this hiring cycle. Georgia football fans would definitely like to see Monken reunite with Brock Bowers in Las Vegas.
