The 2021 Georgia Bulldogs have an argument for the greatest college defense of all time, and they’re doing it at the next level too, leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl. Six former Dawgs are now Super Bowl champions, with a few of them being key cogs in Philly’s dominant defense:
- Jalen Carter, defensive tackle
- Nolan Smith, outside linebacker
- Jordan Davis, defensive tackle
- Kelee Ringo, cornerback/special teams
- Nakobe Dean, linebacker
- Lewis Cine, safety
While Josh Sweat finished with 2.5 sacks, it was the interior pressure of Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis that enabled the game-changing plays in the first half. Sweat notched one of his sacks before Jalyx Hunt followed it with another on back-to-back plays, leading to a third-and-16 for the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes then threw a pass under pressure, and Cooper DeJean picked it off and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown.
Immediately afterward, the Eagles defensive front got pressure once again, leading to a Zack Baun interception on the Kansas City 12-yard line. A few plays later, and it was a 24-0 lead just before halftime. It was total domination from the Eagles defense, which didn’t blitz a single time last night.
The Georgia Bulldogs in the trenches made life hell for Mahomes, and all Dawgs fans can say is “I told you so” to the Atlanta Falcons, who consistently pass on Kirby Smart’s football factory in Athens. Congratulations to the six Georgia Bulldogs who are now Super Bowl champions as well as National Champions. Hopefully, this is a wake-up call for the Falcons to start drafting some Dawgs.
