Former Georgia Bulldogs offensive coordinator and current Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken is drawing head coaching interest in the NFL.

Last offseason, he interviewed with the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Chargers before they landed on Dave Canales and Jim Harbaugh, respectively.

The buzz hasn’t died, though. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Chicago Bears have put in a request to interview Monken.

Monken is from Wheaton, Illinois, which is near Chicago, so if he were to land the job, it’d be a homecoming of sorts for the 58-year-old.

In his two years commanding the Ravens offense, he’s helped Lamar Jackson to an MVP and what could be another one this season. He improved an offense that ranked 19th in scoring and 16th in total yards in 2022 to fourth in scoring and sixth in total yards in 2023.

This year’s offense was even better, as Baltimore ranked third in scoring, first in total yards, first in rushing yards and seventh in passing yards. Monken’s impact was felt in Athens too.

While the Georgia offense handled Monken’s departure fine in 2023 with the help of Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey, it struggled this past season. Carson Beck regressed, but I’m not quite sure it was even his fault. This may have been the worst offensive line in Kirby Smart’s tenure at Georgia; the skill position group didn’t help Beck out, and Mike Bobo failed to replace Todd Monken.

The Bulldogs will have some decisions to make, but Monken might have the honor of coaching one of the most prestigious franchises in NFL history. Even though the Bears haven’t had much success since the turn of the century, Caleb Williams presents a unique opportunity for whoever is hired.

Todd Monken helped the Georgia Bulldogs win back-to-back national championships, and while Dawgs fans would love to have him back to replace Bobo, he’s likely ready for his next challenge — winning a Super Bowl.
