Former Falcons WR joins Dan Quinn in Washington

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: DEC 03 SEC Championship LSU vs Georgia

A flock of former Falcons have followed past head coaches to their new homes.

Arthur Smith, now the offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh, has attracted a slew of familiar faces to the Steelers, including Cordarrelle Patterson, Scotty Miller, Van Jefferson, and MyCole Pruitt. Dan Quinn has also been dipping into the same well.

Dante Fowler, who signed with Atlanta before the 2020 season, followed Quinn from Dallas and now to Washington. More recently, Olamide Zaccheaus and Mykal Walker signed with the Commanders. Now, another old friend is joining.

According to Jordan Schultz, former Falcons wideout Damiere Byrd is signing with the Commanders following a workout.

The veteran has now spent time with the Falcons, Panthers, Cardinals, Patriots, Bears, Texans, and Commanders. His best season came with New England while catching passes from Cam Newton when he recorded over 600 yards on 47 receptions.

The former Carolina UDFA has operated as a role player and special teamer, but he did average 20.6 yards per catch with the Falcons in 2022, scoring two touchdowns in a 268-yard season.

Byrd will most certainly have to contribute in the third phase of the game to make the Commanders’ roster, but the Washington receiving core isn’t set in stone. Holdovers Terry McLaurin, Jamison Crowder, and Jahan Dotson lead the unit, while Byrd will compete with Olamide Zaccheaus and Luke McCaffrey for reps this offseason.
