The Falcons and Giants have at least one thing in common — shaky offensive line play. Atlanta is expected to add to the position, and New York is expected to overhaul it fully, which began by signing former Falcons tackle Matt Gono to a one-year deal on Wednesday.
The New York Giants are signing OT Matt Gono to a one-year deal, per source. Released by the Falcons in January after missing 2021 due to injury, Gono is healthy and brings high upside to an O-line that needs it.

In January, the Falcons and Gono mutually agreed to part ways. He initially served as the team’s swing tackle behind Kaleb McGary and Jake Matthews, but he was also supposed to compete with Jalen Mayfield for the starting job at left guard. However, Gono showed up to training camp last offseason in a neck brace.
Gono only started four games in 2020 and was unable to make it on the field in 2021 after the Falcons placed a second-round tender on him. Since the Falcons released him at the time they did, Gono could sign with another team before the free-agent market opens on Monday.
As I said before, the Giants’ offensive line is a weak point on the roster. They only had a couple of starting-caliber players under contract at the position, so Gono gives New York a versatile piece that has taken snaps at left guard and right tackle.
