Grady Allen is a former Falcons linebacker that played for Texas A&M from 1965 to 1967, where he helped the team to its first Cotton Bowl appearance in 27 years. Allen wasn’t chosen in the NFL draft, but he did play as a reserve linebacker in 59 games for Atlanta over five seasons from 1968 to 1972. He totaled two interceptions and three fumble recoveries over that span but sadly passed away in December of 2012. He was survived by his son, who actually worked for the Falcons.

Dennis Allen worked for Atlanta as a defensive quality control coach from 2002 to 2003, then as a defensive assistant from 2004 to 2005. Allen then moved on to the Falcons divisional rival Saints, with whom he won a Super Bowl. Eventually, Allen would go on to be named the Oakland Raiders head coach but was fired at the beginning of the 2014 season.

After that, he returned to New Orleans, where he was named the defensive coordinator in November of 2015. Fast forward to the present, Allen was promoted to become the head coach of the Saints, taking over for long-time coach Sean Payton.

Dennis Allen, son of former Falcons linebacker Grady Allen, is now the head coach of his father’s former team’s most hated rival. It really is a small world; even Dennis can find humor in the situation.
