In tragic news, former Falcons defensive tackle Ed Jasper passed away over the weekend, according to an NBC Sports report. Jasper’s career spanned nine seasons, six of them coming with Atlanta from 1999-2004.
Jasper was a former sixth-round pick of the Eagles in 1997 and played for two seasons in Philadelphia before moving onto Atlanta. His best seasons came with the Falcons, as he started 58 games over those six years.
During the 2002 season, Jasper started 16 games and totaled two sacks on his way to the playoffs but mainly played the run-stuffing role. He recorded 14 sacks and 205 tackles during his time with the Falcons.
It is a tragedy Jasper passed away at the age of 49. The SportsTalkATL family sends their condolences to the friends and family of Ed Jasper.
