The Hot Stove has been unbearably cold to this point in the offseason, but the Winter Meetings are around the corner at the beginning of December. This is right around the time things generally pick up, and Braves Country is anxiously awaiting the free agency decision of Max Fried.
According to multiple MLB insiders, there are as many as 6-8 teams involved, but that might be short-selling it. Any club that needs a starting pitcher will be calling Max Fried’s agent. He’s been arguably the best left-handed pitcher over the last half-decade and certainly the most consistent.
Among the teams with reported interest, the Boston Red Sox are a team to watch out for, and former Braves catcher A.J. Pierzynski recently predicted Fenway Park will be the next home to Max Fried.Â
The Red Sox seem prepared to finally go all-in again in free agency after a few lackluster seasons. They are reportedly heavily involved in the race for Juan Soto, which means they have more than enough money to target an arm like Fried. Even if Boston lands Soto, they are going to need more starting pitching if they are to be competitive in the AL East.
From the perspective of the Braves, the Red Sox are an ideal landing spot if Max Fried doesn’t return to Atlanta. They are in the American League, and there’s no real rivalry between the two clubs. In fact, I’d enjoy watching Fried pitch in front of a packed house at Fenway Park, and the Boston faithful will surely appreciate his bulldog-like approach on the mound.
This would be a best case scenario if Max Fried leaves in free agency.
