Russell Gage‘s ankle injury in last week’s divisional matchup against the Buccaneers revealed how this coaching staff feels about the receiver depth on the roster. If he can’t play against the Giants, which Ian Rapoport reports could be a long shot, the Falcons may be forced to play Olamide Zacchaeus a significant amount of snaps.
#Falcons WR Russell Gage is considered week-to-week with an ankle injury suffered on Sunday, source said. The team will see on Friday if he can possibly go this week vs the #Giants, though it appears as a bit of a long-shot at first glance.

Gage hasn’t had a noticeable impact on the field outside of a couple of first-down receptions, but he’s undoubtedly the second-best receiver on this team. The coaching staff chose to play Gage on a bum ankle over any other healthy receiver against the Bucs, revealing how they feel about Zaccheaus, Christian Blake, and the rest of the receiving core.
The Falcons need all the help they can get, but if Gage can’t go, expect Hayden Hurst and Kyle Pitts to be featured more. Cordarrelle Patterson‘s versatility can also lessen the blow of losing someone like Gage. This decision could be made on Friday, says Rapoport, so we will update you as the week progresses.
