Falcons work out a slew of notable free agents, including former first-round picks

The Falcons signed free agent offensive tackle Brandon Parker on Tuesday afternoon, but that wasn’t the only thing the club did.

Atlanta worked out a total of nine players, including a pair of first-round picks in John Ross and Phillip Dorsett, as well as Ahkello Witherspoon, Andy Isabella and Byron Pringle, among others.

Dorsett is a name that I haven’t seen in a while after being draft by the Colts in the first round in 2015. Ross is also a blast from the past. Had he landed in a better situation, like with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, the 40-yard dash record holder would’ve been a great success.

Byron Pringle is a former Chiefs receiver, and Isabella was initially drafted by the Cardinals in the third round, to go along with four tight ends — Jody Fortson, Gerrit Prince, Zaire Mitchell-Paden and Alec Holler.

While the Falcons could use another receiver, Zac Robinson used Charlie Woerner as much as Ray-Ray McCloud III. Many believed it would be a lot of three receiver sets, but that wasn’t the case.

More than anything, the Falcons could use another corner, and Witherspoon has a connection to Raheem Morris from their time with the Rams. In 2023, Witherspoon started all 17 games for Los Angeles and recorded three interceptions, 52 tackles, three tackles for loss and 14 passes defended.

On Sunday, Mike Hughes started opposite A.J. Terrell, but Clark Phillips III did rotate in for Hughes in the second half. I’d say Witherspoon has the best chance of being signed.
