If you’re like me and would like for the Falcons to trade back and gain some extra draft capital, this should be music to your ears.
.@mlombardiNFL: "I think Washington is going to be the next team to unload all their picks to try to get a QB. I think they love Lance. I don't think, I KNOW Washington loves Lance … I think they're willing to go get him."

Not only is Trey Lance reportedly Washington’s guy, but it was also reported earlier this week that Terry Fontenot has eyes for him as well. That plays right into Atlanta’s hands because if Washington truly believes that Lance will be the fourth overall pick, they will have to pay the piper to move up to four and sweeten the pot to convince Terry Fontenot to change his mind. This may all be smoke, but it also makes a lot of sense. The Football Team seems to be just a quarterback away from really competing in the NFC.
Washington currently picks 19th in the 2021 NFL Draft, and that would be a decent spot for the Falcons to select. Plenty of talented defenders like Greg Newsome II, Azeez Ojulari, or Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah could be available. In addition, a talented plug and play guard like Alijah Vera-Tucker may be in play with that pick. Considering how much the 49ers paid to get up to the third overall pick, Washington would likely have to give up two additional first rounders, one or two of their three picks on day two, and a boatload of future draft picks — something like this:
- Pick 19
- Two of Picks 51, 74, or 84
- 2022 First Round Pick
- 2023 First Round Pick
- 2022/2023 Day Two selections
I don’t see any way Atlanta can turn that down. That’s a really big asking price, but it’s what I consider “unloading all of your picks.” Ask for the moon, and you may just get the stars.
