Falcons want to find ‘QB for next 10 years, next Matt Ryan’

The Falcons have a Plan A, B, C, and D to upgrade the quarterback position this offseason.

Most of the rumors and reports surround Kirk Cousins and Justin Fields. It’s easy to see why too; both are the most readily available options, but they present wildly different scenarios for Atlanta.

Cousins would be the best option to help the Falcons win right now, not just more than Fields but more than any other potentially available quarterback. The veteran would only be a short-term solution to a long-term problem, though.

Fields, on the other hand, could potentially be the franchise quarterback in Atlanta. The downside is the risk of him not realizing his full potential, but the attractive part of acquiring him is the tantalizing prospect of him becoming everything everyone thinks he can be.

However, neither seems to be the Falcons’ priority. Last week, Steve Wyche and Daniel Jeremiah stated that they believe Fontenot will be aggressive in trading up the board.

In an interview with 92.9 The Game’s Dukes and Bell, Wyche doubled down, telling the hosts that Justin Fields and Kirk Cousins aren’t the Falcons’ first options.

Daniel Jeremiah sat down with Tori McElhaney and Terrin Waack and furthered the narrative that the Falcons prefer to find the long-term answer.

“I’ve been told that the Falcons want to find their guy for the next 10 years. They want to find their Matt Ryan. They want to find that next guy to roll with,” DJ said.

Now, that could potentially include Justin Fields. He’s young and talented but hasn’t developed at the rate of some other young quarterbacks. The Falcons would hope to help accelerate that process.

It’s clear the new regime’s goal is to find the long-term answer. The only thing is that may not be a viable option.
