The Falcons open the 2021 NFL regular season at home against the Eagles, and according to DraftKings, Atlanta will be 3-point home favorites as both head coaches will make their debuts. With the matchup taking place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the 3-point spread is certainly intriguing because what it tells us is if it took place on a neutral site field, it would essentially be a pick ’em — equal odds.
Matt Ryan, Kyle Pitts, Calvin Ridley, and Arthur Smith will be the engine that makes the Falcons go because the defense’s best asset might be someone who won’t even touch the field Sunday — Dean Pees. The Eagles offense isn’t overly impressive, but given Jalen Hurts dual-threat capabilities, the Falcons pass rushers have to keep their lane integrity to keep the former Heisman runner-up inside the pocket, forcing the Eagles offense to beat them through the air.
The line has already moved in favor of the Eagles. Most analysts are taking the road team against the spread, but I believe the play is the total points over. The over/under has been set at 48.5, and with so many uncertainties on the defensive side of the ball for both teams, I think the teams easily cover over 48.5 points. I would stay away from both moneyline odds as the Eagles are +150 underdogs and the Falcons are -180 favorites.
