Over the last week, it’s become evident that Kirk Cousins’ free agency will come down to the Falcons and Vikings. According to just about every NFL insider, he’s at the top of Atlanta’s wish list to fill their quarterback void, but Minnesota doesn’t seem to interested in letting him walk. It looks like it is going to come down to who will pony up the most money, and The Athletic’s Dianna Russini has reported today that Kirk Cousins will have a decision for the Vikings tonight about whether he will test free agency.
The Vikings are expecting to hear from Kirk Cousins tonight on his decision to explore free agency, sources tell me and @alec_lewis Of note: His contract does not void until Wednesday so the team will have until then to extend him before his dead cap hit officially hits the books… pic.twitter.com/A4QJlQKJqg

Cousins has received two fully guaranteed contracts from the Vikings, but at least as of now, they appear hesitant to give him another one. If that’s the case, it will leave the door open for the Falcons to blow him away later this week.
As ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said, it’s a “50-50 proposition” between the Vikings and Falcons. I still think, when push comes to shove, Minnesota will give Kirk Cousins the contract he desires, matching just about anything Terry Fontenot will offer, but we won’t know for sure until it happens.
If the Falcons can’t land Cousins, it looks like they will pivot to Baker Mayfield and possibly even Justin Fields. Fields may not be their top option, but Terry Fontenot might not have a choice if Cousins and Mayfield re-sign with their current teams.
