According to Ian Rapoport, the Falcons will be signing Lorenzo Carter to a deal to keep him in Atlanta.
#Falcons free agent pass-rusher Lorenzo Carter is headed back into the building today in Atlanta, set to sign a two-year deal, sources say. Off the free agent board, Atlanta keeps one of their productive young players.

The Georgia product totaled 58 tackles, 12 quarterback hits, four sacks, one fumble recovery, one interception, and two touchdowns. Carter did enough to earn a second contract after being brought in last offseason. He was expected to be Atlanta’s top edge rusher, which he was, but the sack and pressure numbers were underwhelming.
Depending on the deal, I like this acquisition. Carter is a quality edge defender who does a lot of the little things right. He might not post double-digit sacks, but he can be a piece of a pass rush. If Carter is once again expected to be the top guy in the room, Terry Fontenot will have failed miserably. Carter can be the second or third guy in the edge room, but in no way, shape, or form should he be the leader.
This is the first two-year deal of the Falcons offseason; expect more and more multi-year contracts this offseason as the Falcons boast the second most cap space in the league. Hopefully, there is a splash free agent signing down the road, but this is a fine start to the free agency period.
