The NFL Combine is underway as teams get together to evaluate the top talents entering the NFL Draft, none bigger than projected #1 overall pick Caleb Williams. The Heisman Trophy winner out of USC is arriving in Indianapolis today, and the Falcons, who are desperate to find their next franchise quarterback, are scheduled to meet with him.

The Bears are widely expected by most to take Williams with the first overall pick and trade Justin Fields, but Ryan Poles did leave the door open to potentially trading the pick, saying it would take an offer that would “help our organization significantly.”
That’s going to be the case for the Falcons if they want to move up into the top three picks. The offer would likely have to start with a couple of first and second-round picks along with a high-quality young player, which is what the Bears received last year for the #1 overall pick. In most people’s eyes, Williams is a better prospect than Bryce Young, so any potential trade this time around will assuredly cost even more draft capital.
But for the Falcons, that shouldn’t deter them too much. They already have a pretty good roster and are in fantastic standing with the salary cap this year and moving forward. They can afford to give up whatever draft assets that are necessary, as a quarterback on a rookie contract would allow them to spend gobs of cash to fix their other holes. If the Bears seriously consider moving the pick, Terry Fontenot shouldn’t let Ryan Poles hang up the phone without accepting an offer.
