Falcons sign intriguing pass rusher ahead of Chargers tilt

The Falcons signed defender Demone Harris to the active roster from the practice squad, the team announced Friday.

In desperate need of any pass rush help, Harris may actually help in that department. While Raheem Morris pleads with Matt Judon to give the team more production, the reality is that Atlanta’s pass rush is in such a low spot that a practice squad elevation might help.

He actually has some juice and could provide a spark for Atlanta’s pass rush. It certainly can’t get much worse. Harris appeared in three games this season when the Falcons elevated him from the PS, in which he recorded three tackles, one for a loss and a quarterback hit in those outings.

His NFL career began in Tampa with the Buccaneers in 2018. In 17 total appearances, Harris has posted 14 tackles, three for a loss, four quarterback hits and one pass breakup.

This comes after the Falcons made a couple of other roster moves, releasing Jovaughn Gwyn on Thursday, signing kicker Riley Patterson to the practice squad, and releasing Dane Cruikshank on Friday afternoon.

The Falcons are preparing to host the Chargers on Sunday in what is a pivotal matchup when it comes to Atlanta’s playoff chances. The club currently has a 78.1% chance of a postseason berth, but that drops by 10% with a loss on a Sunday and rises by 10% with a victory. Meanwhile, the Bucs’ playoff chances would drop from 46.9% all the way to 24.8%, but it’ll rise by 10% if they win.
