There was a bit of sarcasm in that, but Marlowe is a decent player, even if most Falcons fans have never heard of him. Initially an undrafted free agent out of James Madison, he spent his first four seasons with the Panthers and Bills as a reserve safety and special teams contributor.
Last season with the Lions, Marlowe started nine games, recording 67 total tackles, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups. By most standards, he was an average safety. Detroit needed him to be the third safety behind Will Harris and Tracy Walker while contributing in the third phase of the game, which he did.
There isn’t one thing in Marlowe’s game that he excels at, but the Falcons’ safety room doesn’t need him to do anything other than provide depth and be a mainstay on special teams.
