The Atlanta Falcons are shaking up their roster ahead of the team’s Week 2 matchup on the west coast against the Rams. Earlier today, Atlanta restructured Deion Jones‘Â contract to create cap space and potentially make him easier to trade.
The Falcons also signed tight end Anthony Firkser to the active roster after he started the season on the practice squad.
Falcons have now signed TE Anthony Firkser to the 53-man roster.
He was a practice squad elevation last week.

Firkser spent time with Arthur Smith in Tennessee before re-joining him in Atlanta. For much of the offseason, I expected he’d be TE2 behind Kyle Pitts, so it was extremely surprising to see him cut and placed on the practice squad in favor of Feleipe Franks.
Honestly, I don’t understand the fascination with Franks. Sure, he’s an excellent athlete with real potential at tight end, but to continue to use a roster spot for someone who isn’t going to play is mindboggling. Maybe the Falcons have a specific offensive package for Franks, and we just didn’t see it, but I digress.
Firkser finally joins the active roster despite not playing much on Sunday against the Saints, only totaling three snaps. Even more surprising, Firkser was targeted twice on three of those snaps, hauling in one of those for six yards. I expect Firkser to be a more significant part of the offensive game plan heading into Week 2.
