Falcons scheduled to meet with Liberty QB Malik Willis

The Falcons are scheduled to host Malik Willis, who is the presumptive top quarterback prospect, on a visit, according to Adam Schefter.

Included in Schefter’s report, Willis is also expected to meet with the Panthers, who hold the #6 pick in April’s draft. The Falcons have an obvious need for a franchise quarterback after trading long-time signal caller Matt Ryan to Indy. Atlanta signed Marcus Mariota to a two-year deal, but fans shouldn’t expect him to be anything more than a stopgap.

Willis has been mentioned as the class’s top quarterback prospect, but he’s not alone. Kenny Pickett is also consistently considered right there with the Liberty product. I wouldn’t necessarily be thrilled about the Falcons taking either signal caller with their first-round pick because there will be a bevy of other highly touted prospects available.

Still, if the Falcons feel one of these guys can be the team’s quarterback for the next 15 years, then I’d have no arguments. It is the most important position in all of sports, and it’s by far the hardest one to get right. The Falcons shouldn’t force anything, though.

Lucky for these prospects, nobody would come in and be expected to start in Atlanta. All of these quarterbacks could use a redshirt year, and they can do just that for the Falcons.
