Falcons: Saints narrowing in on next head coach

NFL: DEC 29 Cowboys at Eagles

After a tumultuous process in which Falcons fans got plenty of laughs, it seems the Saints have found their next head coach.

New Orleans targeted a number of candidates, but for one reason or another, they all decided against taking the job. Aaron Glenn chose the infamously poorly run Jets, while Kliff Kingsbury and Joe Brady elected to remain in their current role as coordinators.

It seemed like Kellen Moore was their last option, and ESPN pundit Adam Schefter confirmed on the Pat McAfee Show that while it’s still ongoing, it seems the Eagles offensive coordinator will be the Saints next head coach.

“Barring any setback, (Moore) is going to be the guy,” Schefter said.

As league rules state, the Saints aren’t able to speak with Moore until after the Super Bowl, and GM Mickey Loomis is going by the book, according to Schefter.

“The head of the Saints organization, Mickey Loomis,” he said. “Is going to do everything in his power, when it comes to this coaching hire, to follow the rules and go by the book and not talk to Kellen Moore until after the Super Bowl.”

The Falcons faced Moore’s Eagles earlier this season in which they held Philadelphia’s offense to 21 points. Granted, it was a much different Eagles offense in Week 2 than it is now. It evolved and became one of the best units in football.

In 2024, the Eagles ranked No. 7 in points per game, No. 8 in yards per game, No. 29 in passing yards and No. 2 in rushing yards. However, Saints fans need to acknowledge the talent discrepancies between Philly and New Orleans. There’s still a lot of work to be done in the Big Easy.
