Falcons: Saints may miss out on their top head coach candidate

NFL: DEC 15 Bills at Lions

While the Falcons aren’t in the market for a head coach, fans should be paying attention to the hiring cycle because the Saints are in the process of looking for their next guy, and it looks like their top target has emerged — Aaron Glenn.

Per ESPN’s Dan Graziano, the Saints are expected to “make a strong push” and “probably land” Glenn over the Jets and other teams. However, The New York Post’s Brian Costello wrote in his “Inside the Jets” column that Glenn “has told people the Jets are his first choice if he were to be offered a head coaching position.”

Graziano noted that it’s seemingly between the Jets and Saints, two teams Glenn played for during his career. He played for New York from 1994 to 2001 and ended his career with New Orleans in 2008.

The ties go further than that too. Glenn was a scout for the Jets in 2012 and 2013 but the Saints defensive backs coach from 2016 to 2020 before following Dan Campbell to Detroit in 2021 to be the Lions defensive coordinator.

“Keep an eye on the Jets as a possibility for Aaron Glenn,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said last week. “He played for that team. My understanding is he had a really strong interview. Expect him to be in the mix, though worth noting that New York is still going through about 20 different interviews for that job.”

I’m not sure which job Aaron Glenn would choose, but it sure would be funny to watch the Falcons’ biggest rivals miss out on their top target.
