The Falcons’ rookie class has been the least productive in the NFL, with the only member of the 2024 draft class taking snaps being JD Bertrand.
However, the 5th-round pick has only appeared in a handful of defensive snaps; most of his action has come on special teams. Granted, Michael Penix Jr. was never going to play, and Bralen Trice suffered a season-ending injury in the preseason, but there’s no excuse for the rest of them. The two most disappointing are Brandon Dorlus and Ruke Orhorhoro, the latter being the club’s 2nd-round pick. They’re clearly projects in the Falcons’ eyes.
Worst of all, we are just throwing 6th-rounders away too. Zion Logue was never activated off the practice squad, and the Bills snatched him up before ever taking a snap for the Falcons. Thankfully, there’s a light at the end of the Thursday Night Football tunnel.
Unfortunately, Troy Andersen is going to miss the matchup against the Buccaneers due to a knee injury following a breakout performance against the Saints. However, it’ll give us an extended look at rookie JD Bertrand in a starting role.
It’ll mark the first time a Falcons rookie starts a game this year.
