While predicting what the Falcons’ offseason will look like is difficult at this point, that isn’t the case for a handful of clubs around the NFL.
Atlanta could be looking for new coordinators if Raheem Morris doesn’t like what Zac Robinson or Jimmy Lake gave him, especially the latter of which. The Falcons could be looking to trade Kirk Cousins, and hell, there’s a non-zero chance that the Falcons are looking for a new general manager.
It’s impossible to tell at this point because how the rest of the season plays out will dictate their offseason direction. However, their rivals in the Big Easy will have quite the busy offseason with one clear goal — find a new head coach.
After firing Dennis Allen and seemingly keeping Mickey Loomis as GM, the Saints will try to find their next Sean Payton, and what should sound like nails on a chalkboard for Falcons fans, New Orleans is interested in the hottest commodity of the hiring cycle in Ben Johnson.
According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, the Chicago Bears, New York Jets and New Orleans Saints are all expected to have the Lions offensive coordinator on their radar. He’s been the most sought-after candidate in each of the two previous hiring cycles and is expected to remain as such.
Ben Johnson took over the Lions’ offense when Dan Campbell was hired, going 3-13-1 in their first season in Detroit. However, they’re now 12-1, favorites to win the Super Bowl, and lead the NFL in scoring with 28.3 (I know, Falcons fans) points per game.
Fortunately, the Saints aren’t exactly the most desirable landing spot for prospective head coaches, and Ben Johnson’s requirements will most likely rule out teams that aren’t necessarily picture-perfect jobs.
Still, it’s a possibility and a nightmare scenario for the Falcons if the Saints are able to land Ben Johnson.
