In a move that we all saw coming, the Falcons have restructured the contract of left tackle Jake Matthews.
Per the great @DOrlandoAJC it'll save the team $8.6 million, putting them within striking distance of actually having a crumb of cap space.
Matthews was a logical candidate for this. He's started all 16 games the past 6 years running and is a quality starter

This was a max restructure, and Matthews’ cap hit now sits at just under $12.3 million. Using the $182.5 million barometer, the Falcons are roughly $8.75 million over the cap right now. I talked about some more moves that I expect to come, and Matthews certainly will not be the last contract restructured. It will be interesting to see if the front office chooses to restructure Julio Jones and Matt Ryan. If they don’t, it is a sign they could be thinking about a future without them following the 2021 season. .
