Falcons request to interview Panthers DC for HC job

It’s been a whirlwind of a Thursday. As the world digested the news of Nick Saban retiring, it was announced that Bill Belichick and the Patriots were parting ways. On top of that, the Falcons are sending out more than a handful of requests to interview potential head coach candidates.

As of right now, we have reports of requests for both coordinators in Detroit, Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, Ravens assistant head coach Anthony Weaver, old friend Raheem Morris, offensive coordinators Bobby Slowik and Brian Callahan, as well as current 49ers defensive coordinator, Steve Wilks.

Most recently, the Falcons submitted a request to interview current Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, according to Jordan Schultz.

The Falcons actually requested to interview Evero for their vacant defensive coordinator job last offseason but were blocked by the Broncos.

With Denver in 2022, he led one of the best defenses in the league, finishing with a top 10 unit in most metrics. Evero once again put together a stout defense this season with the Panthers, helping lead Carolina to a top five finish in yards allowed.

Prior to his time in Denver, Evero spent 2017-21 with the Rams. First, he was the safeties coach then the secondary coach and finished as the defensive pass game coordinator with Los Angeles.

He’s highly regarded around the NFL, spending time under coaches like Vic Fangio, Dom Capers, Wade Phillips, and Monte Kiffin. The Falcons have the defensive talent to build a monster, and a mind like Ejiro Evero could really unlock that, but I’m not quite sure how realistic of a head coach candidate he is in Atlanta.
