The Falcons have stayed consistent in their approach towards Matt Ryan this offseason. They know they need to start thinking about the future of the quarterback position, but they still believe Ryan has some good football left in the tank. Unless a team comes up with an offer Terry Fontenot and company simply can’t refuse, expect Ryan to be under center in 2022.
According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, teams interested in trading for Ryan are receiving the impression that he will not be traded this offseason.

Even though it doesn’t make much sense with their current roster, the Falcons’ brass has made it clear they plan on competing for a playoff spot next season. I don’t see it happening, but I also think the time to commit to a rebuild and trade Matt Ryan was last offseason. Doing it now would send a confusing message to the team and assuredly put the Falcons in the conversation for the top pick in the 2023 draft.
But just because Atlanta is not planning on trading Ryan, doesn’t mean they won’t draft their quarterback of the future in a couple of months. Some of the best quarterbacks in the league served as backups for years before becoming starters, and there are few better veteran players to learn from than Matt Ryan.
