As the Falcons trimmed their roster to 53-men, they announced they have released former first-round pick Laquon Treadwell.
Falcons called Laquon Treadwell today to inform him of his release. Had a rough camp with some drops. Thoughts of Falcons fielding an offense with all first-rounders not gonna happen now with either Russell Gage at receiver or Keith Smith at fullback among the 11 on field.

Considering how little we heard from Treadwell during training camp, this news is not all that surprising. He was brought in to push Russell Gage for the WR3 position, but Gage ran away with that battle while Treadwell kept falling further down the depth chart. Atlanta also has Christian Blake and Olamide Zaccheaus — two former UDFAs — competing for those final WR spots on the roster, and this is a promising sign that they will both be featured on the 53-man.
Treadwell just hasn’t shown enough since being a first-round pick in 2016. His size and athleticism may be enough to warrant a look from another team. However, he’s coming very close to receiving his final opportunity in the NFL.
