The Falcons will have at least one position to fill this offseason on the coaching staff, but attrition in this league is natural. Players, coaches, and executives eventually leave teams for better opportunities. Falcons fans know this as well as any fan base. After their Super Bowl run, Atlanta lost their offensive coordinator and the catalyst of Matt Ryan’s MVP campaign in Kyle Shanahan to the head coaching gig in San Francisco.
Although, this departure won’t leave the void that Shanny did. Tony Elliott, who has spent the last decade at Clemson, took the head coaching job at Virginia and is filling out his staff. After a mediocre 2021 campaign, the Falcons will say goodbye to their runnings back coach, Des Kitchings, who has officially accepted the offensive coordinator position on Elliott’s staff and will immediately leave the Falcons.
Atlanta RB coach Des Kitchings will leave the Falcons "immediately" to accept Virginia's offensive coordinator position. "We're happy for him," Arthur Smith said.

First and foremost, I want to congratulate Kichings. He came from South Carolina, where he coached running backs as well. Before that, Kitchings coached eight seasons at NC State in the same role. He helped produce three-straight 1,000-yard rushers from 2016-18. Arthur Smith noted that a committee of coaches would assume Kitchings’ duties. After working directly with Cordarrelle Patterson every day, there has to be some credit given to him for Patterson’s outstanding and unexpected season. Congratulations coach, and good luck on your future endeavors.
