Falcons ranked dead last in latest CBS power rankings

The Falcons have lost back-to-back games to open the season for the second time under Arthur Smith, but this year feels slightly different than 2021. Atlanta lost by a combined five points in Weeks 1 and 2 in 2022 and lost by a combined 49 points to their first two opponents last year. It might be minimal, but it’s definitely progress. It feels weird to argue that some losses are better than others; that’s a loser mentality from which I try to distance myself, but it is applicable in this piece. The Falcons were ranked last in the latest CBS power rankings.

I wholeheartedly disagree with this placement for the Falcons. They’re certainly one of the worst teams in the league, but how could Pete Prisco watch the Falcons be competitive against two playoff-caliber teams and rank them last? At the very least, they’ve shown more than the Panthers, who are at best, an equal dumpster fire as Atlanta. The Falcons are squaring off with the Seahawks this week in Seattle. If the Falcons can pull out the victory over Pete Carroll’s team, they’ll undoubtedly jump up in these rankings.
