After knocking off the Saints with little to no help from his run game, offensive line, and defense, Matt Ryan has been awarded the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Week 9 Players of the Week
AFC
Offense: QB Justin Herbert, LAC
Defense: DE/LB Josh Allen, JAX
ST: P Tommy Townsend, KCNFC
Offense: QB Matt Ryan, ATL
Defense: S Xavier McKinney, NYG
ST: RB Kene Nwangwu, MIN— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) November 10, 2021
Ryan delivered a vintage performance against one of the league’s best defenses in front of a drunk, hostile crowd in the Caesars Superdome. The veteran tossed a season-high 343 passing yards and three total touchdowns with no turnovers. His 135.8 passer rating is by far and away from the best mark of the season.
Ryan seemed like he was constantly dodging Saints defenders and still found a way to win after his defense gave up the lead. The offense couldn’t close out the game when they had the lead, but that can be attributed to the suboptimal run game. New Orleans held Atlanta’s rushers to just 34 yards on 24 carries, a pathetic 1.4 yards per carry.
Matt Ryan has been carrying this team for much of the season, and they would absolutely not be sitting at .500 and the 7th seed in the NFC playoff picture without him.
