Falcons playoff hopes now hinge on the Saints

Just a short time ago, the Falcons were traveling to New Orleans with a 6-3 record. The Saints had just fired Dennis Allen and were reeling. Atlanta was in the driver’s seat of the NFC South, looking prime to capture their first division title since 2016.

Since then, the Falcons have lost five of their last seven, bringing their record to 8-8 and no in control of their postseason destiny. Atlanta lost four straight, allowing the Buccaneers to take the division lead, but the Falcons got some help. The Cowboys upset the Bucs in primetime, and Atlanta had the opportunity to win the division.

All they had to do was win out, and they’d capture a postseason berth. Thanks to the game management of Raheem Morris, the Falcons fell to the Commanders in primetime, giving way to the Bucs to secure their fourth straight division title. The Falcons only hope? The Saints.

In the season finale, the Saints will travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers in a contest that has playoff implications, even if the Saints have been out of it for several weeks. If the Bucs somehow fall on Sunday, the Falcons will have a chance.

The Panthers will be traveling to Atlanta as the Falcons host what could be their final game of the season. If the Falcons and Saints win, the good guys will end up taking the NFC South. That’s a lot of hope and prayers, though. As of right now, the Saints are two-touchdown underdogs, so it’s a David vs. Goliath matchup.
