The Falcons saw two of their most critical pieces in the trenches depart in free agency, both landing with the Bears — Drew Dalman and Grady Jarrett.
While Jarrett’s replacement will likely be a committee led by second-round pick Ruke Orhorhoro, that won’t be the case with Dalman’s replacement, who many believe could be Ryan Neuzil.
The App State product stepped in for Dalman for eight games last season when the starter went down with an injury. He performed admirably and is a logical candidate to at least compete for the starting gig in 2025. It looks like he’ll get that opportunity too.
Per Tori McElhaney, the Falcons have placed a right of first refusal tender on Neuzil, which means they have the right to match any contract offer he receives.
As an undrafted free agent, Neuzil is on the cusp of establishing himself as a starter in this league. It’s a great story. He was fine in Dalman’s absence last year, certainly worse in run blocking compared to Dalman, but he held his own in pass protection, a weakness in Dalman’s game.
The Falcons shouldn’t just hand Neuzil the starting job, though. The club would be wise to bring in competition. whether it’s through free agency or the draft.
