The entire world is amid another COVID outbreak, so it isn’t surprising that every professional league in season is getting ravaged. The Atlanta Hawks have a roster made up of mostly G-League players at this point, and though it isn’t that severe, the Falcons are dealing with an outbreak of their own. On Tuesday, the team announced that Feleipe Franks and Richie Grant would be placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Franks and Grant join a bevy of other Falcons on the reserve/COVID-19 list that were added on Monday — Brandon Copeland, Tajae Sharpe, James Vaughters, and Dorian Etheridge.

In recent weeks, Franks has been the primary backup for Matt Ryan, even if Josh Rosen is a better option at this point. Arthur Smith’s fascination with Franks as an athlete is what keeps him on the active roster, not his prowess as a thrower. Expect Rosen to be back on the active roster before the team heads to Buffalo to take on the Bills.
Grant is the most significant name on the list, but he’s really only played a rotational role as he struggles to grasp the playbook. Grant has been playing nickel more than a traditional safety alignment; expect Darren Hall and Avery Williams to get plenty of burn as he likely misses this Sunday game against the Bills.
