Following their 23-20 win over the Browns, the Falcons have placed the team’s leading rusher — Cordarrelle Patterson — on the IR after a minor procedure this morning.

Coming into Sunday’s Week 4 matchup in Atlanta, the Falcons and Browns were two of the best rushing teams in the league. And the game was an absolute slugfest. But it wasn’t Patterson who did most of the damage. The veteran had been dealing with injuries coming into the game, and the bulk of the carries went to Tyler Allgeier and Caleb Huntley.
Both youngsters carried the ball 10 times; Allgeier totaled 84 yards, and Huntley recorded 56 yards to go along with a touchdown. As a team, Atlanta rushed for over 200 yards for the second straight week, averaging 5.8 yards per carry this week. Considering the success on the ground, the offensive line deserves praise.
Cordarrelle Patterson will surely be missed, but the Falcons have shown an ability to move the ball on the ground without him in the game. Huntley was just recently signed to the active roster as he and Allgeier are primed to share the load in the backfield. Avery Williams shouldn’t be forgotten either, but the two bruising tailbacks will serve as the main ball carriers moving forward until Patterson returns healthy.
