Ahead of Monday night’s matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders, the Falcons had some good and bad news on the injury front. On the positive side, Ruke Orhorhoro has been activated from the IR. However, starting linebacker Troy Andersen has been placed on IR.
Orhorhoro, a second-round selection in this year’s draft, was a healthy scratch in each of the Falcons first four games. Finally, in Week 5, he made an appearance and immediately provided a boost against the run. He still has a lot of room to grow as a pass rusher, but his presence gives the Falcons even more depth across the defensive front, a group that has been much better over the last two weeks.
Andersen’s season coming to an end is a tough blow for all parties. He’s had a very difficult time staying on the field, appearing in just two games last year and seven this season. A second-round selection from the 2022 NFL Draft, Andersen has flashed a ton of tools and potential. The Falcons defense is unquestionably better when he’s available, but this is now essentially two straight lost seasons as he heads into his fourth and final year of his rookie contract next season.
