The NFL Draft is nearly here, and the Falcons have the opportunity to bring in a class that can propel them from postseason contenders to a legitimate Super Bowl threat.
Coming into the offseason, there were clear needs at a few positions, namely the most important one in the sport. Atlanta hired Raheem Morris, who immediately addressed the team’s top priority of finding a quarterback.
The Falcons went out and got the best option available, signing Kirk Cousins to a $180 million deal. The move immediately signaled the team expects to compete in 2024.
Terry Fontenot immediately followed it up with a Darnell Mooney signing, filling one of the roster’s other top holes. However, with a few days left before the draft, the Falcons still have glaring needs on the other side of the ball.
Raheem Morris and Jimmy Lake’s defense must add a pass rusher and corner, but the draft could fill one if not both of those positions. Many expect the Falcons top pick to be spent on a defender, which could be Dallas Turner or Laiatu Latu as well as Quinyon Mitchell or Terrion Arnold.
The Falcons own the Jaguars’ third-round pick, so they could add an additional top 100 pick or package it to move up in the second round. There are a ton of possibilities with four top 100 picks and eight total in the entire draft.
