Outside of the signing of Casey Hayward, Eddie Goldman, who inked a deal with the Falcons just a couple of weeks ago, was my favorite free agent addition. Unfortunately, it seems that he’s had a change of heart, as the team announced moments ago that Goldman has opted to retire.
Eddie Goldman has informed the Falcons he's going to retire.

A former second-round pick of the Bears, Goldman spent the last six seasons in Chicago before signing a one-year deal with the Falcons. He was a lock to start on the defensive line and was going to be one of the best interior defenders Grady Jarrett has ever played next to, allowing the two-time Pro Bowler some freedom to maneuver, something Jarrett hasn’t had in quite some time.
Losing Goldman is a pretty substantial blow to the Falcons defense. They have a little bit of money to spend, but there aren’t many worthwhile free agents left on the market as training camp approaches. We’ll see if the Falcons attempt to replace Goldman, or if they opt to spend that money elsewhere before the season starts.
