Arthur Blank may be a lot of things, but the organization’s owner is certainly not cheap.

Some fan bases, like the Bengals and Commanders (before Dan Snyder sold), have to actually deal with their owners penny-pinching. That’s not the Falcons or Arthur Blank.

He’s constantly reinvesting in the club. He broke out his checkbook at the beginning of the offseason, giving Kirk Cousins $100 million in guarantees. He also invested a considerable amount of money in the team’s facilities last offseason as soon as an NFLPA report card suggested Flowery Branch wasn’t up to standard.

Blank has never been the kind of owner to be scared to spend money, and the latest example of such was A.J. Terrell’s contract extension that will pay him $81 million over four years, with $65.8 million “effectively” guaranteed, making him the second-highest-paid corner in the NFL… at the time.

Contracts in the NFL are funny because Patrick Mahomes, the undisputed best quarterback in the league, isn’t even the 10th highest-paid player at his position. That’s just the name of the game.

It’s more about timing than anything, and the Falcons waited to give Terrell his extension when they could’ve at the beginning of the offseason and got a better deal. However, there were always a couple of superstars coming down the pike that needed to get paid, and one of them got his money today.

Pat Surtain and the Broncos agreed to a four-year, $96 million extension that will pay him $24 million a year, the highest-paid corner in the NFL now.

Sooner or later, the Falcons star cornerback will be even further down the ‘highest-paid cornerback list” when Sauce Gardner gets his extension. He will surely eclipse Pat Surtain’s deal and become the first $25 million per year player at his position.
