Maybe Thomas Dimitroff’s parting gift to the franchise, Atlanta has gotten amazing production out of 2020 4th Round Pick Mykal Walker.

Walker isn’t some flash in the pan. I wrote back in September about how well he was playing, and he’s managed to get even better week by week. Walker has the second-highest grade overall on the Falcons behind Superstar D-Lineman Grady Jarrett. His 76.9 grade from PFF is good enough for 9th out of 87 qualified linebackers in the entire NFL. His 90.3 coverage grade for the season is 3rd out of 78 qualified linebackers. He hasn’t nabbed an INT, but he came oh so close a week ago in the Red Zone. With the way he’s hawking, it’s only a matter of time.
Walker’s presence is very much welcome. Deion Jones is stable, and I predicted Foyesade Oluokun’s breakout almost a year ago. However, that third linebacker spot was a massive question mark coming into 2020. De’Vondre Campbell was as good as gone, and there was a hole even before his departure. While he’s still developing as a run defender, Walker is proving to be an elite nickel/sub linebacker that can cover the whole field. He’s rangy, smart, and talented. Hopefully, he can finish up the year strong and maybe even garner up some DROTY buzz. Jeremy Chinn has also been fantastic, but Chase Young is probably a shoo-in. However, Walker’s efforts for a pretty inconsistent Falcons defense is just what Atlanta needed with limited cap space. He deserves some national praise, not just from Atlanta fans.
