In an interview with 680 The Fan this morning, Matt Ryan was asked how he’d react if the Falcons selected a quarterback in the upcoming NFL draft. His response was as unsurprising as ever; he rarely answers a question incorrectly.

Honestly, what did the interviewers think he was going to say — I get it’s their job to ask. Ryan referenced being a good teammate, a professional, knowing how this business works, pushing and competing with each other, but said he will never be a standoffish personality.
This comes ahead of the 2021 NFL draft where the Falcons are selecting higher, fourth overall, than they have since drafting Matt Ryan in 2008 — third overall. It could very well end with Atlanta selecting Ryan’s successor. Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, and Mac Jones will likely be available, so Terry Fontenot will have his pick of the litter.
It doesn’t matter who the Falcons end up picking; if it’s a quarterback, Ryan will help guide the young man. Many are very split on this issue of selecting his successor or not, but none should argue about Ryan being in Atlanta. This team can compete next year even if the Falcons select a quarterback with the fourth pick; it all starts and ends with Matty Ice.
